Just like any “performance” vehicle your horse-drawn equipment requires regular maintenance to make sure it’s ready to work when you are. Here’s our complete service checklist that we use everyday when inspecting vehicles and recommending repairs or replacements.

At Alberta Carriage Supply we see a lot of older vehicles and some in various stages of decay – just check out some of our more ambitious restoration projects – but that’s not what we’re here to talk about today! We want to focus on the plows, farm equipment, wagons, and “people-movers” that you count on to get the most out of your draft horse experiences. We’re talking about the regular checkups, maintenance, repair or replacement of worn parts before they become a problem (or a restoration project).

Let’s start at the bottom and work up

Alberta Carriage Supply has built thousands of wheels and we’re quick to notice when something isn’t right. Loose spokes, felloes, tires. Bent axles and broken hardware. Rotted wooden parts. Broken springs or worn spring hardware. Broken or unsafe steps. Next we’ll inspect the running gear including axles, brakes, reaches, alignment and suspension.

Body repairs and hardware

An inspection of the body of your vehicle and its condition is next. Whether it’s just for you or the comfort and safety of your passengers, the body of your vehicle needs to be in sound condition. The fit and finish including seats, hardware and accessories should be “tight and right.”

A picture is worth a thousand words

Sometimes it is hard to describe exactly what we’re seeing but your vehicle inspection includes detailed photos to pin-point where issues might be starting so that you can make an informed decision about what needs to be done now and what work could be done at a later date. We’ll document your vehicle’s condition from end-to-end.
